Letter 15 - January 9th, 1883

Dear Rodger,

One of the most intriguing landmarks I’ve observed near Hemlock is the covered bridge over Schwartz Creek. There is a curious sign that hangs from the roof with the words ‘Morbus Tenebris’ engraved into it. I assume it is Latin, but I know not its translation. I am aware that you have studied Latin rather extensively throughout your life, and perhaps you might know what this means? If you are able to respond promptly, I would be very grateful. It’s merely that I’m anxious to understand the significance of the word and why it might be on a sign.

My humble regards,
Greyson Hastings
