Letter 14 - October 19th, 1847

Dear Governor Dogwood,

I hold a great deal of respect for what you and your venerable family have done for the state of Vermont. It is for this reason that I trust you will understand the urgency of this letter. Postmen are refusing to travel the route through Spookinite Valley. They evidently fear encountering highwaymen after the disappearances of two other postmen. As you know, it is by no means uncommon for travelers to vanish. Perhaps if you could send an infantry platoon to patrol the main road forthwith, Hemlock’s mail would be delivered more punctually—and perhaps the mail coach robbers would be discouraged and flee.

Your most humble and obedient servant,
Michael A. Beauregard
