Welcome to the Gloomy Hollows

Letter 10 - October 4th, 1897
Dear Sarah,
Fredrick and I are quite distraught over what transpired last night. Sometime after seven o’ clock p.m., terrible shrieks and screams resounded from Warwick. The repeatedly tolling bell from the clock tower seemed to signal that something had gone horribly wrong. We made certain our doors were locked. The pandemonium would not end for hours, with yells and howls persisting until nearly midnight. In our unlit house, we both listened—our hearts beating like drums. Earlier this morning, Fredrick spoke to a policeman who explained that most of the inmates had escaped. I wonder what truly happened?
Love,
Elizabeth
