Letter 27 - October 19th, 1878

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Haselden,

I find myself sitting by the fire, lost within the unmerciful reveries that come to us amidst the memories of our dearly departed. I also ponder what has befallen me. I should like to leave my cottage more frequently, but I am always held back by my own fear. However, you may be glad to learn that while I made my way through town yesterday, I found the most charming pendulum clock. Its wood appears to be a wonderfully polished mahogany, and the spandrels around the face are a lovely brass. The features upon the smiling moon dial exude nobility, too. I am eager for you both to see it during your next visit.

With much love,
Luella
