Ode to the Night
Written by Benjamin Fouché

Such humble majesty befalls the soft earth;
And I was destined to dwell here since my birth.
‘Neath the starry veil across the dusky skies,
A hidden kingdom of nightly wonders lies.

God’s lesser light does bring forth immense relief;
Night is sanctuary—this is my belief.
The mild calls of the nocturnal creatures;
Have much to tell us—ah, these silent teachers.

Moonrays fall gently on dark, rippling waters;
And the dancing shadow prances and totters.
Spring peepers resound whilst the bats flutter high,
And the owls observe carefully and cry.

Crickets chirp meekly and a loon haunts the pond;
Her ghostly wails echo—no one dares respond.
Blackened trees sway like bony hands in the wind,
And indeed—how this wonderous time does mend.

Some do not understand that this is my place
Where I can cherish life—and my dreams, I chase!
‘Neath the starry veil across the dusky skies,
A hidden kingdom of nightly wonders lies.
