Lost Letters
Letter 89 - February 25th, 1883
Dear Greyson,
I am by no means dismissing your assertion that ghost stories and fairytales can be used to convey pragmatic truths. Rather, I am arguing that the belief in the existence of such creatures—and relying on them as an explanation for that which has yet to be explained—is epistemologically unfounded and irrational. We both know that for as long as mankind has enquired about all around him, he has always learned that the wisdom of old becomes foolish and obsolete. And now, especially in our more reasonable and enlightened age, the supernatural must be left only to the practitioners of parlor tricks and storytelling. Greyson, you need not burden yourself with these matters. You will feel at greater ease accepting that some mysteries shall remain as they are in your lifetime.
Your most obedient servant,
Rodger A. Broomhall
