Lost Letters

Letter 76 - May 19th, 1883

Dear Waldere Ashcroft,

The volume of rhymes and poems of which you speak is a common enquiry that we receive from visitors. But I must tell you, at the risk of your own displeasure, that there is not, nor was there ever, a particular book of your description. Notwithstanding this reoccurring confusion, there is a truly remarkable reason for this undying myth. For more than a century, there has existed a tale. Whether told near the fireside or beneath moonlight, it is always quite the same: There once lived a poet who immortalized horrific events with his quill and ink. Nonetheless, he never did finish writing his book and died unexpectedly. The book allegedly went missing and is believed to be anywhere. Of course, this is simply folklore, but there are old volumes of literature that reference this myth.

Sincerely,
Damien B. Percy
