Lost Letters
Letter 65 - August 15th, 1890
Dear Mr. Randolph,
I have some hopeful news since I last wrote to you. Victor is inordinately vivacious and talkative, while simultaneously demonstrating remarkable awareness of his surroundings. I mean not to say that his temperament shifted overnight, but that he has—by degrees—distinguished his delusions from reality. Moreover, and unexpectedly, he expresses remorse and compassion for his fellow patients. Leaving Victor in isolation may presently prove regressive. May we, with your permission, transfer him to another cell, where he would be within the company of another patient? And if you were to approve this, where would you wish for me to bring him? We are anticipating your return to Warwick at the end of the month.
Sincerely,
Dr. J.W.
