Lost Letters
Letter 63 - February 5th, 1883
Dear Rodger,
You may look at our ‘superstitions’ as you wish, but I wouldn’t be too rash in your judgements. I agree that some stories are too unreasonable to be given any legitimacy, yet this doesn’t mean that the vigilance and wariness to which they contribute is nonsensical. Everyone—utterly everyone—disappeared in October of 1851. No letters nor documents were left to explain why or where. Disregarding the past is exceedingly foolish, and at the essence of every legend, there dwells a truth far more hideous and horrifying than anything we might imagine. ‘Fantasy’ in Hemlock is a means of protection against what we have yet to understand.
Regards,
Greyson Hastings
