Lost Letters
Letter 55 - August 12th, 1890
Dr. Joseph White,
Your news is most concerning. Mr. Wright is a curious case, indeed; however, you must understand that the behavior you describe is quite common. Melancholia sometimes fluctuates; this may suggest a progression to mania. And since you are my most competent physician, I’m certain you already know this. I must also confess that Mr. Wright was a friendly acquaintance of mine. I am saddened quite deeply by his tragic condition, but I cannot make an exception for him. The courtyard must remain locked until the new wall is constructed. As you know, this depends entirely on funding.
Respectfully,
Jeffrey Randolph
