Lost Letters

Letter 49 - October 29th, 1878

Dear Stanley,

I write to you with grievous urgency. You must return to Hemlock at once. Luella is missing, and I fear for her safety. Last night when I spoke to her, she suggested something most troubling. Although her words were vague, their essence was that of melancholia and madness. I do not know where Luella could have gone, but we are searching every street, alleyway, and corner. I weep as I pen this, for all I ever sought was the poor girl’s wellbeing. Was there more we could have done for her? I searched her diary in hopes of finding an answer; her words progressively illustrate her descent into an emotional chasm. I fear her mental afflictions were far more severe than we understood.

Lovingly yours, and worried,
Addy
