Chest of Glass Eyes
A traveler riding through the valley on horseback—and by moonlight—noticed many glistening objects at the edge of the road. As he narrowed his eyes, he discerned an upturned trunk, too. Dismounting, he approached it, seeing more small, gleaming things scattered about. They appeared to be marbles that had spilled out of the chest. However, as he knelt down and picked one up—and to his dismay—he realized it was a glass eyeball gazing back at him. He dropped it and stumbled backward in retreat, noticing the irises and pupils of every other eye lying on the earth. When he returned the following day, the trunk was gone, as were all of its gruesome contents.
