An Accursed Harvest?
One cold, unrestful evening, in October of 1822, three friends secretly built a fire in the forest of the dark dale. Around the warm, flaming tongues, they spoke fearful stories to one another. It was twilight when they took notice of several black shapes lumbering off in the recently-scythed cornfields beyond the woods. With each glance, the friends realized that the obscured masses were scuttling towards the campfire. Unfortunately, the remaining hint of sunlight died as they heard irregular movements in the leaves. Although they fled, it is not known what happened afterwards. Fragments of their clothing and shoes were found amongst the large, grotesque pumpkins the next morning.
