Journal Entry 81 - June 11th, 1886 – 12:14 a.m. [Continued]

Whereas others were intimidated by what is likely fiction, I am all the more enthralled by these old-fashioned superstitions. Yet the truth is that neither spooks, nor specters, nor spirits can prevent one from indulging in the riches that the dead General hid in this deplorable countryside. Was he foolish enough to believe he could take every piece of gold with him after his demise? I suppose he thought very little (if at all) about the happiness of his own posterity. No matter, for I shall take that which no one else seeks. It may be true that most are forever imprisoned by the folly of their respect for forgotten husks decaying in wooden boxes beneath the earth, but I have dared to step beyond such arbitrary confines and find my own chosen birthright. Indeed, whether by blood or not, my inheritance seems extraordinary.
