Journal Entry 64 - December 3rd, 1888 – 3:52 p.m.
I have regrettably been informed by Sheriff Bierce of Ashcroft Falls that Mr. Moore has vanished, too. His neighbors saw him riding out of the hamlet, as if in quite a hurry, and he hasn’t been seen since approximately seven o’clock a.m. Everyone believes he was ‘unwaveringly’ determined to find Mr. Dickinson. Very soon, Edgar, Clifford, Mason, and I shall set out with Bierce and search the valley for him—and I should hope we don’t find a riderless horse near the Schwartz Creek bridge, as before. I am disheartened by the endless uncertainties, and I have a peculiar feeling that records have been silently removed or the truth is being deliberately omitted. But by whom? And for what purpose? There are only a few in Hemlock that I trust.
