Journal Entry 62 - November 23rd, 1888
Every property tax record has consistently and unequivocally been filed under one name since 1812: ‘C.W. Ormiston.’ Further information on this individual is either scarce or nonexistent. Edgar did happen to find an old newspaper in the town library archives; it was from June of 1820, when Warwick Asylum opened its doors. Apparently, Mr. Ormiston was an associate and benefactor of the late Sir Warwick, who founded the institution. Even so, Edgar nor I could find any history on the Ormiston family or the year they settled in the vicinity. It feels as though whenever I’ve convinced myself we are nearer to the truth, greater doubts and bewilderments sink my confidence. If Mr. Ormiston is still alive, he must be nearly a century old. But were we to enquire at the cemeteries, would there rest a grave with his name?
