Journal Entry 50 - July 26th, 1890

The veil that divides the sane from the insane is rather thin. Beyond the polished veneer that we so proudly wear is a grim truth. Although we shun it unknowingly, the night shall come when we all must face our own hidden lunacies. I know my associate will serve as a fine mayor—and one of which Hemlock is most deserving. The politics of a town are no different from the politics of this very institution. For everyone suffers from madness, and thus, they must be understood and governed accordingly. Insanity does, after all, run quite rampant throughout Hemlock. Warwick has always been a conspicuous symptom of this. Yet to tell this truth aloud would cause an outrage.
