Journal Entry 13 -
October 9th, 1849

I sometimes wonder who tends to the crops throughout the valley near Hemlock. I have yet to see the farmer; his whereabouts are unknown to everyone. And although the corn and pumpkins grow abundantly within the fields, there is something unnatural about their appearances. The pumpkins especially look grotesque and monstrous. And the cornstalks are offensively tall. Sometimes in the moonlight, it appears as though something is pulsating beneath the soil. Perhaps it is but a trick of the eye? What an abominable harvest, indeed! I doubt any marketplace would display such ugly things!
