The Unwanted Correspondent

In the early 19th century, when postmen disappeared more frequently in Spookinite Valley, so did their sacks of mail. And while it may be true that the letters were never opened by the ones to whom they were addressed, someone did undoubtedly cut the wax seals from the envelopes and read over each one. All the more disconcerting, however, were the replies the senders promptly received from an unwanted correspondent. Whoever penned the responses pretended to be the original addressee; but upon further scrutiny, one would see that the handwriting was unfamiliar. No return address was ever found on the envelopes, and it was not unheard of for the recipients to feel as though the writer were watching them through their windows.
