Revelations of My Eidolon

Beneath Spanish moss that drapes low,
My heart was clutched by fear and woe.
I saw myself standing upright,
And this phantom caused boundless fright.

The doppelgänger was not me,
Yet its eyes would not let me be.
I screamed; the apparition leered,
For my lone existence it mirrored.

I fled, but the figure followed,
And my sanity it swallowed.
Then the moon turned a ruby red,
Over us, crimson rays it shed.

Throughout the marsh, the grim wraith yelled,
Echoes scattered and belled and belled,
I cried, “Why do you haunt me so?”
He bellowed, “You are your own foe.”
