Hauntings & Lore
The Townspeople Never Seen Again
Decades after the townspeople vanished in 1851, the new residents who emigrated to Hemlock throughout the second half of the 19th century (many of whom were related by blood to the lost denizens) believed they had uncanny visitations of their missing relatives amidst the witching hours. From one to four o’ clock a.m., ‘visitors’ would materialize in the bedchambers. They would see these figures standing at the ends of or beside their beds. The specters themselves appeared to have glass eyes and a jaw not attached to the rest of their head. The movements of their arms and legs were unnatural and abnormal, too. And the voices sounded like aberrant mockeries of human speech.
