The Anomalies of Hawthorne’s Bog
Hawthorne’s Bog is perhaps one of the most bewildering locations in the valley. Beneath the rank cattails and sedges, dark waters sometimes wait in eerie silence. There are many anomalies that have been observed here. For instance, unexplained lights are occasionally discernable at night—floating slowly over the sullen wetland. And the foreboding calls of loons and autumn peeper frogs are often heard by travelers as well. These nocturnal symphonies are remarked on by many as being peaceful but paradoxically disquieting. However, it is said that if the bog is too quiet, one must quickly flee—for nothing pleasant ever proceeds the stillness.
