Ghostly Poetry
Sprites in the Mire
Floating and flying sapphire phosphorescence;
They glide about with their playful evanescence.
Hovering near white lilies like tongues of fire,
Elusive indeed are the sprites in the mire.
Softer than the twinkling stars in the night skies—
Feebler than the pulsating glow of fireflies—
Ephemeral and far, they dance well after sunset;
Their ethereal figures, one shall never forget.
Cerulean orbs appearing and disappearing—
Curious onlookers witnessing and fearing.
How the sprites drift above the dampened moss and sedges;
Mystery and enchantment this fable alleges.
A sora whinnying from in the reeds—
The lone calls of the bog one always heeds.
From afar, these ghostly lights linger with patience,
Only to flicker and fade with such transience!
