Something Bad Happened Here

How such happiness and love abounded;
The chirps of bluebirds and doves resounded.
And the fountain poured gentle tears of care;
Lush and green, the valley was once quite fair.

The warmth of summer’s sun kissed these hillsides;
Yet now the persisting duskiness hides
The tale of the once meek, tender flowers
And the abundance of caring showers.

Alas, forgotten is this distant time;
Gone are these scenes—once splendid and sublime.
Ah, how the light of day was resolute;
But now this vale is rather destitute.

Here, only ravens caw and vultures perch;
And beneath the shadows, you cannot search.
The day—long laid to rest, deep in the ground
Is forever lost, and cannot be found.

Knowing this, one may shed a mournful tear;
For all can see—something bad happened here.
