Ghostly Poetry

Reckoning

Following this endless road;
Shadows whisper and forebode.
I call out “When shall this end?”
Despair does my echo send.

Beneath the stars I stumble.
Afraid, I hasten and tumble.
The things I wished once could be
Were merely false—don’t you see?

Embracing what I forgot;
I found what I had once sought.
“You left us,” the grim voice croaks.
Far memories it evokes.

My heart beats fast and I breathe
While I tremble, fall, and seethe.
“Yet how we never left you;”
“Ever does your nightshade brew!”

“Together, we shall cause fright,”
“For this is your true delight.”
Dwelling ‘neath eternal moon,
I shall tell you my dream soon.
